Something finished!

I haven't been knitting socks this year, I have been hooked on shawls. Just finished 22 Leaves using knit picks essential in pine.

November Contribution

No socks for me this month but I finished:

2 Noah's Ark baby blankets from by Michele Wilcox made with Red Heart Supersaver on J crochet hook.
Diamond Leaf Mitts by Miranda Davies made with Brown Sheep Co Lambs Pride Superwash on US 7.
and Basket Weave fingerless gloves by Mary Hough with unknown natural color yarn purchased at Stitches West on a cone.

One finished and one in progress

I have not been able to knit much the last few months. I had back surgery in October and have been recuperating since then. I am just now able to concentrate and sit for extended periods of time. So here are two of the projects I have worked on in November.
On the left is a pair of fingerless gloves for my mother for Christmas.
Pattern: purchased from Patternworks; Designed by Barb Kervin for Kollage Yarns
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft; 1 skein
Color: Country Blue
On the right is a partial sock.
Pattern: from the book Socks from the Toe Up; Diamond Gansey Socks
Yarn: Wildfoote Luxury Sock Yarn; 75% washable wool/25% nylon; 2 skeins
Color: Navy Royale
I like the idea of the new blog. I do like knitting a variety of different garments--not just socks. But it will be an adjustment not having a monthly deadline for socks!

November contribution: Trio of socks

These socks have a lot to tell.
The blue-orange one was the first of my fair isle addiction, a creation of myself. The second one was born while the first pair was still in progress, also my own creation. And then Tama came along with the leaves on sock three so a thirth pattern was set up the needles.
This month, I finally finished the last of six: the white with green sock.
Unfortunatly my camera is playing hide and seek, but I hope to post the complete pair before the end of November.
All socks are made with left overs, mostly from Lana Grossa sockyarn. The
blue yarn is with soya, also from Lana Grossa.

Well...Let's Get Started

I thought I would get us started for the month.  I just finished this the other day.  If you are looking for a VERY quick, lovely gift I would definately recommend this.  Yes, it is an afghan/lap quilt, but the pattern calls for bulky yarn--Ecological Wool by Cascade--and knits up SOO fast.  Literally two weeks just working on it here and there.
Pattern Name:  Hemlock Ring Blanket
Designer:  Brooklyn Tweed
Pattern location:  Ravelry
Yarn Used:  KnitPicks Bare Swish Bulky--superwash wool
Yardage:  About 600 to 900 yards depending on how large you want it to get.
Needles:  US Size 10--36" circulars and dpns

Someone is going to be very happy with their Christmas present :o)

Happy knitting everyone.

Welcome to Tails of Another Yarn

WELCOME TO TAILS OF ANOTHER YARN

This new blog is a spinoff of Sockamania. Instead of just knitting socks we would like to offer you a place to showcase your other projects and win prizes too. Each month members will be able to post a photo of a Work In Progress or a Completed project. At the end of the month the names of the participants for that month will be entered into a drawing and a winner announced. Occasionally Tama, our designer, will post a new design pattern -- Tama's Special. It could be anything. She has even hinted at doing Mystery Knit-A-Longs. Anyone who participates in Tama's Specials, and completes their project, will be entered for a special prize draw. Unlike Sockamania where you could choose your prize, prizes for the Tails of Another Yarn draw will be chosen by the Tails of Another Yarn admin team.
The first drawing will be held on December 31, 2010. Giving new members a chance to participate. Beginning January 1, 2011, all participants must post their photos by the last day of the month. The drawing will then be held on the 1st. Unlike Sockamania, this blog has been created in the United States and participation will be based US Mountain Time Zone date and time your project was posted. If you would like to become part of Tails of Another Yarn, please read the How To Join post or click on the JOIN PAGE link on the side bar. If there are any questions, let us know.

How To Join

How To Join Tails of Another Yarn

Thank you for your interest in joining Tails of Another Yarn and wanting to become part of the Tails of Another Yarn family. To join is free but you have to be a member of the Blog first, then you will be invited to join the Google group. The Blog is for posting about your completed or in progress knitting projects and finished photos.  Google group is where patterns will be posted for downloading. Occasionally Tama will post one of her new designs.  You will be able to retrieve that pattern on Google groups. (Remember that all of Tama’s wonderful patterns are copyrighted.)

To be included in the draw, a photo of your current in progress or completed knitting project must be posted along with a description by the end of the month. If a photo is not included, you will not be eligible for the prize draw. Once you have posted a photo of a project that is in progress you cannot repost unless it is a photo of the finished project. **Note**  Along with your photo, each posting should include the name of the project, the name of the pattern and how it may be obtained, the yarn you used and any adjustments you made to the pattern.

Each month a winner will be drawn and a prize sent. If you have posted a photo of a project in progress, or a completed project, you will receive one chance at the draw.

Before you request to join, please note that the Blog and the group are both Google and the invites to both MUST be to the same email address. If you have a gmail/google mail account, use that.  This will make things easier for you and us.
Do not join the blog with one email address and then ask to join the group with a different one. If you do so you will have your blogger membership removed and you will have to start over again.

TO JOIN THE BLOG:
1 - Send a mail to tailsofyarn@gmail.com requesting to join.
When applying, make sure you are using the email address you are going to use on the blog and group.  Those that ask for a invite with one address and then join with another will be removed.
This is done towards the end of the month, so please be patient and wait for your invite to arrive. It is up to you to accept promptly so you are ready to start knitting and posting from the start of the following month.

2 - Accept your Blogger invite. We do not receive notification that you have accepted your invite, so at this point you have two choices to join the Google Group.
The best and quickest option is to email us at tailsofyarn@gmail.com stating you have accepted your invite and would like an invite to the Google group.
(Again, it is important that you make sure you use the same email address that you have used to sign up with on the Blog or you will have to wait until we have seen on the members list that you have accepted.  The Google group is unlisted.  You will not find it or gain membership by searching for it.

If an email address needs to be verified, you will be sent a message supplying you with a link to sort that out. If you do not accept your Blogger invite you will not be invited to the group. No show on the Blog, no go on the group.

To keep your membership:
We will monitor all members on their participation. If you have not posted a photo of an in progress or completed project within 4 months of joining you will be removed as a member. After that you will need to post at least once every six months in order to remain an active member.
If you have been removed and fulfilled the requirements above, please email us with a link to your post. To have your membership activated again.

Happy Knitting
