Thanks!

I am sad that the blog is closing, but have been wondering how long we could hang on with such poor participation. I will miss it. Thank you, Tama, for your generosity in the monthly gifts (including the lovely yarn I received today for the October drawing!) I have Twisted Hare in my bookmarks and will continue to check there when I'm looking for a special yarn to purchase.

November Winner and Announcement

JardinRouge is our November winner!!  Very lovely stuff I must say.  Please email me with your address so I can get your prize sent out.

The announcement is that Barb and I have decided that since the participation for this blog has remained extremely low that we will be closing the blog effective imediately.  We had hoped that by giving you an opportunity to post more than just socks that the participation would go up from what we had at Sockamania.  However, members posting has only been three or four for the last several months indicating that there is very little interest.

We hope that you all have a lovely holiday season and a wonderful new year.

Take Care,
Tama and Barb

Garnets in November

I wanted something pretty for the cooler weather. The wristers don't match the beret, although they were intended to complement the hat. I hope next year to add another something in the same colourways. I absolutely love this yarn...it is perfect for colourwork, and I am gradually acquiring a nice little stash for future projects!

Wristers: my own design Needles: 2.75mm

Thanks Tama for the wonderful prize! You are most generous!

I didn't get anything finished in October. But I did finish a shawl yesterday (that took me most of two months to knit) No photo yet, it still needs to be blocked.

November 2011 Completed

Late Hour Shawl by Kristina Vilimaite. Knitted in gold Nashua Superwash.

2 Noah's Ark baby blankets...the only difference between the 2 is the color of the boat and the trim on the house. Would have been done earlier but I had misplaced the pattern so I couldn't finish the giraffe. This would be my 4th & 5th time completing this pattern.

Hopefully, later this month I will finally my done with my tablecloth...in the meantime, I'm looking forward to casting on Tama's Socks for Christmas.

KAL and more!

I recently joined the Free Pattern Testers group on Ravelry, and have had lots of fun making hats for Woolaid while testing patterns for designers. The purple one is called Galet Hat, made with Lamb's Pride Bulky and mittens to match. The plaid one is I'm Glad It's Plaid, made with Kuka wool de luxe, Lamb's Pride Worsted, and Cascade 220. I finished the 2nd KAL sock. Started to add duplicate stitch details on the snowmen, but didn't like how it looked, so ripped it out. They are mainly knit with Knitpicks Stroll.

FlockenSocken

my interpretation of the Christmas KAL

I don't like knitting with two strands - so I took black sockyarn, the snowflake in the pattern and white beads ...
and here is the result:

thank you, Tama, for the pattern - it was fun to knit

My Gobi Camel House Booties

I purchased the "Knitting Traditions" Fall 2011 edition from Interweave Press the other day and saw some simple socks that I thought were interesting.  The yarn is purchased from Mongolian Herdsman in the Gobi desert region.  It's camel fiber, hand spun.  I went to the web site that offers the yarn and purchased three skeins.  I created these House booties for me :)  The yarn is definitely hand spun.  There is still a little vegetable matter and some guard hairs making the yarn a little scratchy.  However, it's extremely warm (after all the same fiber keep the camels of the Gobi Desert warm) and perfect for wearing around the house.

Watch for the pattern to appear on Ravelry and on my blog twistedharefiberarts.blogspot.com as a free pattern.

September Prize Winner

Let me just say WOW!  Sylvia is our September winner and what an absolutely stunning  heirloom quality shawl.  All I want to know is...when do I get mine :o)

I loved the idea of over-dying the socks black Jardinrouge! What a great idea.  I agree, knitting with black yarn is a terrible pain.  Thanks for the great tip!

Can't believe how great that prize yarn turned out.  You definately found out what that skein wanted to be,  RoteSchnegg.  Very lovely.

And Sandy, great job on your Christmas sock!  The angora may fluff out a little more after washing?  I hope because I love that affect when using it for snowmen.  I love your color scheme!

So Sylvia, send me an email with your address and I will get your prize sent out.

In the mean time, happy knitting!!  I hope to see more of the KAL projects this month.

September Sock

The Christmas socks have been fun to do. I'm almost finished with my second sock. I'm going to do the snowman eyes and buttons in duplicate stitch, since I was short on the black yarn. Yarn is all from my stash--main color is Knitpicks Stroll Sport in Hollyberry; the trees are also Stroll Sport. The other colors are fingering yarn held double. The snowmen also have a strand of angora knitted with the fingering, but it was a thin strand and didn't turn out as fuzzy as I had hoped. Fun pattern! Thanks, Tama!

Just Yer Basic Black Tabi Socks

I wear flipflops a lot, and I wanted a simple pair of black tabi socks, but I hate knitting with solid black yarn.

Solution: knit in just about any boring colourway, then overdye with Rit! I found an excellent buy on yarn...2 skeins on sale for just $5, a hard-to-beat and impossible-for-me-to-pass up deal.

Serenity Sock Yarn. Needles: 2.25mm

I love new socks, even simple basic black ones!

August Winner

Sorry, I totally dropped the ball Barb!!  Sandy, you are our August winner!!  I was supposed to take care of this because the hurricane had Barb a little out of commission there for a couple of weeks.  Please forgive me...I actually have a pretty good excuse :o)  Got three more sock designs I am working on right now for the blog!!  I am so excited.  They are awesome, in my opinion lol.  Expecially the Halloween ones.  And a friend of mine asked me to create a design for her from a picture she found in a museum--having lots of fun with that also!

Anyway, Sandy, if you want to go to my store and select a prize then email that to me along with your address I'll get it out to you.

In the mean time, I hope you are enjoying the Christmas designs.

Something finished in August

The pattern is Crocus fields

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/crocus-fields-in-early-spring I used some Jawoll in superwash. Fun knit, it has been a while since I knit a pair of socks, I had spent the summer knitting on a monster shawl that still needs to be blocked. I am looking forward to the KAL.

Sylvia

Ready...Set...KAL time!

I just emailed out the two Christmas sock patterns for the KAL to everyone.  If you didn't get yours it's because I don't have your email.  Please let me know if you don't get yours.

You don't have to make both to qualify for the prize.  It was ALOT of fun making these patterns and I hope you enjoy them also.

Happy Knitting!

August project - A travel wrap

I wanted something that I could use as a wrap, but which would also keep my lap and legs warm in the car, and my arms and shoulders warm when camping, so I came up with this shawl-wrap-ghan, nicely modeled by my LYS friend Carol.

I wore it the first time this past week when we went camping in the mountains, where it was rather chilly in the evening, and I found that the design needs some reworking. It's not quite long enough in the 'sleeve' area, so I'm going to remove the white, and knit another 8 inches total all around, then add back the white trim. I've got deadlines demanding attention, so until I can find some spare time for the rework, it can be quite useful as a wrap and lapghan.

Yarn: LionBrand Wool Ease 3 skeins, 600 yards
Needles: US 8/5.00mm

August 2011 Finished Project

Yarn: Patons Kroy Needles: US1. Knitted these socks in one sitting --- had to take FIL to ER. So glad I remember to grab something since I had to sit there all night. I knew I couldn't take my tablecloth to work on; hopefully, I will be able to finish it next month to post.

Prize Received

Tama, Thank you for the beautiful Alpaca yarn and matching stitch markers.

Looking forward to the KAL. I miss all of us knitting the same pattern and seeing all of the different variations. Thank you again for the prizes.

August Projects

August was a productive month. Along with these projects, I also finished three hats and another pair of socks. All those pics are on my big computer, which is in the shop. The circle thingey is the beginnings of the Diatom Shawl, a Knitpicks kit in the purple colorway. It calls for 10 balls of their Palette fingering yarn, so it's going to be HUGE. A Christmas present for my daughter-in-law, Molly. The socks were knit for the Free Pattern Testers Group on Ravelry. They are called TATU--Try a Toe Up sock (which I do anyway!). The yarn was unlabeled from my stash--I think it was one of those German ones with a name I can't pronounce.

I already gave away the sweater that I knitted over the last month! It was a jacket for my daughter. These are one of the pairs of socks I completed. I knitted them in Knit Picks Gloss. The color is Winter Night.

I would love to do a KAL. I already do the Six Socks KAL but those socks are August 1 to September 30. I should have them done before I would start on this KAL. It would be good to see one of Tama's designs again!

KAL Update

I have received a special request that I would like to do as well.  With Christmas---yes I said it---coming it would be very nice to actually make Christmas socks BEFORE December.  So what do you all think?  I am planning to design two different pairs of socks that will have a Christmas, winter theme.  The patterns, when finished, will be emailed out to you at the email you used to sign up.  So make sure we have your current email address.  Still planning to start September 1st.

So, are you in?

July Projects Finished!

I accomplished a LOT in July! These, plus several hats, for Wool Aid, and some socks for a friend. The photo for the wocks mysteriously disappeared from my desktop. Oh well. The socks shown here are my own sock version of the Lunacy Hat. The green hat is Knotty but Nice, and the red hat is Tortora Hat, all from Knitty.com. The red hat is knit from Lamb's Pride Bulky, the other two are with Lamb's Pride Worsted.

Calling All Knitters!

I am sure many of you have now in your possession the two newest sock books Knitting Socks from around the World and Knitting Knee-Highs.  I just got mine today, and as a result of extreme excitement am having a hard time typing so please forgive errors in this post.

I am thinking we should do a KAL or two from these books!!  Anybody interested?  Let me know in the comments which socks you are dieing to knit and we'll vote on a couple to do.  I am sure that at some point I will knit every pair of these new patterns at least once so I am not particular at all where I start :)

Let me know and we will try to start the KAL September 1st!!  Prizes, of course, for those who complete the KAL's in the allotted time.

CAN'T WAIT!!!!!
